The 2009 Connecticut Art Education Awards is the annual recognition program of the Connecticut Art Education Association, Inc., the state’s professional organization for art educators at all levels. Listed below are the criteria for these awards, with nomination form attached. Official nominations should be submitted to the CAEA Awards Chair, Janice May, no later than December 19, 2008. They will be screened by the Awards Committee for adherence to the awards criteria, and then voted on by the Executive Board. The awards criteria are applicable to all outstanding art educators, and will be considered in varying degrees in the selection of award recipients. Your participation in this important recognition process will help to showcase art educators on the state level who are doing outstanding work in the profession of art education. CAEA’s rationale for conferring awards on our membership is fourfold:
• To increase public awareness of the importance of a quality art program for all of Connecticut’s children;
• To set the standards for quality art education;
• To show how those standards can be achieved;
• To show our appreciation to individuals or organizations who have made outstanding contributions to art education.

These awards are reserved for candidates who are members in good standing of the CAEA. Membership for three consecutive years is required.
Criteria:
• Demonstrated outstanding teaching.
• Demonstrated leadership in the field of art education.
• Research, publication, or exhibition that contributes to the body of knowledge of the field at the local, state or national level.
• Demonstrated local or state reputation in the area of art education.
• Active participation in the CAEA at the local or state level.
• Active involvement in the profession, at the local or state level, in curriculum design.
• Development of an outstanding program in the field at the local, state or national level.
• Worthwhile contributions to local or state conferences, designing workshops, panels, presentations or media events.

These awards are presented to outstanding individuals and organizations that work to support and improve art education. Membership is not required for these awards. Consider Principals, Superintendents, Boards of Education, local and regional politicians for these awards.
The award’s committee of CAEA will consider all nominees for this award. Since the candidate is a member of the NAEA, his or her name will be submitted to the NAEA for national award consideration. This award winner will be recognized at the Annual Conference of the National Art Education Association.
