CAEA Rubric for selecting Outstanding Educator
It is time for nominations for annual CAEA awards for educators at all levels. Listed below are the criteria for the awards and a nomination form (above). You may now officially submit your nominations to Janice May, CAEA Awards Chair, East Hartford High School, 869 Forbes St, East Hartford, CT 06118. The nominations will then be screened by the Awards Committee for adherence to the awards criteria, and then voted on by the Executive Board. I urge you to participate in this important recognition process. It is vital that the people of our state recognize its art educators and the outstanding jobs that they do each day with young people in the field of art education. The Connecticut Art Education Association's rationale for conferring awards on our membership is fourfold:
- to increase public awareness of the importance of quality art programs for all Connecticut's children;
- to set standards for quality art education;
- to show how they can be achieved;
- to show our appreciation to individuals or organizations who have made outstanding contributions to art education.
The awards criteria is applicable to all outstanding art educators, and will be considered in varying degrees in the selection of award recipients.
Connecticut's Outstanding Art Educator
- Connecticut's Outstanding Elementary Art Educator
- Connecticut's Outstanding Middle Level Art Educator
- Connecticut's Outstanding Secondary Level Art Educator
- Connecticut's Outstanding Higher Education Art Educator
- Connecticut's Outstanding Art Supervisor and/or Administrator
- Connecticut's Outstanding Museum Art Educator
- The John Nerreau Outstanding Retired Educator
- Distinguished Cooperating Teacher/Mentor
- Robert Saunders Memorial Art Education Scholarship
These awards are reserved for candidates who are members in good standing of the CAEA. Membership in the CAEA for three consecutive years is required.
Criteria:
- Demonstrated outstanding teaching.
- Demonstrated leadership in the field of art education.
- Research, publication, or exhibition that contributes to the body of knowledge of the field at the local, state or national level.
- A demonstrated local, state or national reputation in the area of art education.
- Active participation in the CAEA at the local or state level.
- Active involvement in the profession at the state or local level of curriculum design.
- Development of an outstanding program in the field at the local, state or national level.
- Worthwhile contributions to local or state conferences, designing workshops, panels, presentations or media events.

- The Scott Shuler Distinguished Art Advocate Award
These awards are presented to outstanding individuals and organizations that work to support and improve art education. Membership is not required for these awards. Consider Principals, Superintendents, Boards of Education, local and regional politicians for these awards.
Connecticut's Outstanding Art Educator
The awards committee of CAEA will consider all nominees for this award. Since the candidate is a member of the NAEA, his or her name will be submitted to the NAEA for national award consideration. This award winner will be recognized at the Annual Conference of the National Art Education Association.
