131 schools participated; 8 individual student artists entered their work; 1295 entries, estimated 100 Art Portfolios and 50 Photography Portfolios
David Dunlop – keynote at awards ceremony was well-received. There was quite a bit of positive feedback from parents and teachers, much via email – one of the benefits of the program being much more “online” this year.
Chip discussed possibility of creating a separate, independent State/CAEA exhibit, in place of Scholastics if costs rise too much to be feasible.
Many found it difficult to access list of winners and Faith’s article on CAEA web-site, as the link was not easy to find.
Committee needs help with striking show on Sat. 2/7

YAC: (Chris)
Flyers with schedule will be emailed; they were also included in the attendees’ folders at the Fall Conference.
Exhibit is at the Hartford Insurance Company in Simsbury again this year.
Marie Ringquist will act as Co-Chair for YAC this year, and has agreed to take over as Chair for the 2010 event.

State Report: (Scott)
State board of Ed. has re-adopted their original statement on Arts from 1999, which states that all students will “create or respond or perform” in the arts.
Scott feels that Betty Gallo, lobbyist hired by Ct. Music Art Ed. & CAEA has been effective and influential with the Educational Appropriations and Educational Committee.
Ré: Economic and budget issues at the State level, Scott urged CAEA members to be pro-active in their district budget meetings and hearings, and to be prepared with numbers and statistics that support the importance of the arts.
In Hartford [Schools], a task force is being formed with help from Betty Gallo to help strengthen support for the arts programs.
Summer Institute has received notice that the grant has been approved; 2 1-week-long sessions are scheduled: 7/6-7/10 will be curriculum development at Yale University; 7/13-7/17 will be studio-focus, at Lyme Academy of Fine Arts. Participants will attend both sessions.
State-wide assessment in music and art (Grades 5 & 8) has been moving forward, under guidance from Gail Edmonds. The first meeting to design a 3-D task took place recently; 8th grade task meeting is scheduled for next week for piloters.
Gail Edmonds position has been cut – ends on 7/30/09. Scott expressed his disappointment at this decision by SDE, and praised Gails’ efforts since she began in 9/07; due to her efforts, the State assessment project has been moving forward and been successful so far.
Scott will be leaving on a Sabbatical on 7/1/l0 as he moves into his new position of President of NMEC; during his tenure with NMEC (2 years), he will have limited time at SDE, and Rich Wells will be filling in for Scott, as well.

Awards (Janice)
The CAEA Annual Awards Banquet and Ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 3/31/09, at Maneeley’s in South Windsor.
Committee met and selected recipients – 7 awards will be given;
David Dunlop will be keynote at ceremony.
Award winner will attend free of charge, but all guests must pay ($50/per person).

Leadership (Andrea)
Andrea has found that many members email addresses are either missing or incorrect. One solution discussed, was to place a link to “Constant Comment” from the CAEA web-site so members can update or enter their own contact information, to allow for more CAEA communication.
Discussion regarding long-time CAEA member, Bob Saunders and his recent passing. Motion was made by Joanne, 2nd by Marty, to make contribution ($100) in Robert’s name, to the Wadsworth Atheneum, as requested in his obituary. Motion carried unanimously;
The CAEA Scholarship will be re-named the “Robert Saunders Memorial Scholarship” in his memory. This scholarship will be awarded for the first time at the awards ceremony in March.
2009 Fall Conference – a planning meeting will be held on 2/26, 4pm. Andrea will also invite CAEA members via email, and hopes to have a larger committee. She is looking for more members to attend, so that tasks are easier for everyone. (Location of planning meeting TBA)

Bill will work with Earl and Leslie to upload Visions and provide links

Activities (Sheila)
The Lesson Share held in November was well-attended and successful. Sheila and Linda would like to be able to post information for next event on web-site for more participation.
Plans are in progress for a trip to the Pequot Museum. No date has been decided yet.
Another Lesson Share will be planned, perhaps for late spring.
There was a discussion about taking advantage of the opportunity for CAEA members to work with Tim Scull; he has offered to host a CAEA event at Canton Clay Works, and it was suggested that CAEA use this opportunity as a fund-raiser. Sheila will find out more information for next meeting.

Team East, National AEA (Andrea)
Andrea will be attending NAEA conference in Milwaukee, but will miss one day of Delegates, due to her traveling schedule from Japan. She asked for help/volunteer to attend Delegates in her place; no one in attendance is planning on attending NAEA;
Members who plan to attend NAEA conference, should contact Andrea.
